The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

This project aims to create a laser system for use as a laser guide star. Semiconductor laser technology is a cost effective, highly reliable and compact alternative to expensive, inefficient, bulky laser systems. This laser has wide scientific appeal for research with telescopes in astronomy, and for satellite tracking and mitigation of the threat of space debris. Producing a sodium laser guide star in Australia is expected to secure the country's position as the premier provider of commercial-grade laser guide star adaptive optics systems for civil and defence telescopes around the world.Read moreRead less
Self-defined measures of financial performance and CEO pay. This project aims to investigate measures of financial performance used to reward executives that do not comply with accounting standards. Such measures are sometimes presented as performance measures to external stakeholders and this can have important implications for organisational governance. This project aims to investigate measures of financial performance used to reward executives that do not comply with accounting standards. Such measures are sometimes presented as performance measures to external stakeholders and this can have important implications for organisational governance. This project expects to generate new knowledge by identifying the way decision about performance and its measurement are linked, and the influence of external auditors in this process. The expected outcomes from this project will will include empirical evidence that significantly improves our understanding of the choices firms make in reporting to stakeholders, as well as determining executive compensation.Read moreRead less
Financial performance, uncertainty and corporate investment decisions. It is well understood that the provision of financial reports to external stakeholders impacts their decision making. Yet the extent to which externally reported financial measures such as earnings can resolve uncertainty, and their influence on corporate investment decisions is largely unknown. It is well understood that the provision of financial reports to external stakeholders impacts their decision making. Yet the extent to which externally reported financial measures such as earnings can resolve uncertainty, and their influence on corporate investment decisions is largely unknown. This project identifies how disaggregation of earnings into market-, industry- and firm-specific components explains differences in the quality of financial information, and the implication for accounting standards regulating the reporting of periodic performance. It applies the resulting insights to identify an uncertainty reduction role for financial reporting, and the way in which information contained in earnings impacts investment decisions. This project examines whether and how higher-level qualifications for vocational education and training (VET) teachers would improve quality in the VET system. Government documents and public commentary indicate that the VET sector suffers from some fairly serious quality problems. This is significant because VET provides training that underpins all Australian industries. Most VET teachers are qualified only to a Certificate IV level. A more highly qualified VET teaching workforce is likely to lead to improvements in quality; however there is currently no firm evidence to establish this link, as the 2011 Productivity Commission report on the VET workforce pointed out. This project aims to provide much-needed evidence to guide policy.Read moreRead less

We will construct a model for business coaching that systematises best practice in a governance framework of interaction norms, processes and outputs. The research will set standards for this important but institutionally unregulated field of practice.Read moreRead less

This research will produce new knowledge about the sustainability of social enterprise based transitional labour market programs, and contribute to the development of such programs nationally and internationally. The study of the factors that shape the success, or otherwise, of the most vulnerable, marginalised young people's involvement in these programs will contribute new knowledge about young people's transitions into labour markets. Together, these innovative understandings of social enterprise, marginalisation and social inclusion/transition will make significant contributions to the National Research Priority goals strengthening Australia's social and economic fabric and promoting an innovation culture and economy.Read moreRead less

Leaders are seen as exemplifying and guiding the climate of police organisations. This project will deliver comprehensive, comparative, and internationally relevant empirical data on the relationship between leaders' approach and behaviours and the achievement of outcomes in these significant, high profile public sector organisations. On this foundation the project will make recommendations on innovative institutional design to achieve ethical, effective and efficient policing capable of withstanding the challenges of the future. This will increase public confidence in policing, resulting in safer communities and improved crime control. This proposal contributes to the ARC research priority of Safeguarding Australia.Read moreRead less

The Australian book sector contributes over $2 billion annually to the economy and is one of our most important creative industries. But the rise of e-books and other developments in digital technologies are leading to paradigmatic change across the entire book supply chain. This project addresses the nature of responses to these changes at three principal points in the chain: authors, publishers and readers. The project develops an innovative approach to analysing the contribution the book industry makes to the Australian economy and to our national cultural life. It will generate extensive new data and analyses to inform government and industry policy-making at this critical period in the industry’s history.Read moreRead less

The CYCLOPS project brings together a team of leading Australian astronomers to build on this track record with a new facility that further advances Australia's capabilities in both this field, and several other high-profile astronomical endeavours: including the study of seismology in stellar interiors, the detailed measurement of elemental abundances in stars throughout our Galaxy, and the mapping of spot features on the surfaces of stars.Read moreRead less
