Brain injury has significant health, economic and societal costs. Despite breakthroughs in brain science, regulatory approaches aimed at preventing and treating brain injury vary and have disparate outcomes, even among at risk populations. By studying brain injury, this research aims to discover how inequality affects public health interventions. Using a robust set of qualitative and ethnographic methods, the project expects to advance international knowledge on how experiences of trauma influence AOD consumption, and the diverse factors that shape variation in experience and outcomes for individuals. However, there has been no systematic investigation of the ways in which they are being incorporated into everyday life. The project aims to address this critical gap in relation to home cooling. This project examines the conversion of farmland for development in China, and examines how different modes of land conversion affect people's participation in local governance, community cohesion and conflict. The research will enhance understanding of domestic Chinese political processes.

Geo-politically, the stability of China is crucial to the region, and many commentators see rural unrest as the greatest threat to the regime.
