Extending hospitality and making citizens: a historically and ethnographically informed analysis of the resettlement of refugees in Australia. Australia’s humanitarian program is considered a model of success internationally, but has rarely been subject to close scrutiny. The project is the first comprehensive critical analysis of Australia’s past and present resettlement of refugees. It will inform Australia’s response to the increasingly complex challenges posed by forced migration.
Nation Building and Elite Formation in Singapore, 1966-85. * The project will study elite formation, the praxis of elite governance, and the development of the relationship between elitism and nation building in Singapore from independence in late 1965 to approximately 1985.
* This study is significant because it is arguably the pivotal axis on which the Singapore experience of governance rests, and yet it has not been the subject of a dedicated study.

The Power of Giving: Australian Women Philanthropists, 1880-2000. This collaborative project with the National Foundation for Australian Women explores the changing extent and nature of Australian women's philanthropic giving since1880. It will test the hypothesis that these activities both reflected broader constructions of gender and shaped civil society and public policy. Adopting a multi-scalar approach, it assesses this relationship nationally and in Aceh, a province with a long history of military–militia relations and Islamisation of political life. Financial dispossession: a history of Indigenous peoples and stolen wages in Victoria. This project will investigate the history and impact of past Victorian government policies on stolen wages on Victorian Indigenous communities. The project will further the understanding of these stolen wages policies and assist in the campaigns for justice for those Indigenous people affected by these policies.
