Through a comparative study of Chinese villages, this project tests a framework for analysing the interplay between women's political representation and women's well-being. The project outcomes include new conceptual and methodological tools, strategies for enhancing gender equity in governance and development, and scholarly publications.

This project investigates the recent wave of violence in China's ethnically complex western regions and the reasons why some areas have become more violent than others.
