Australian Policy Online is Australia's only comprehensive gateway providing access to research reports available electronically from nearly 120 Australian research centres and other organisations. This project will broaden the range of material available, providing important new resources to users of the site, reinforcing the site's role in the national information infrastructure through its involvement in a number of innovative projects, and strengthening APO's international dimension. APO will be a series of datasets comparing Australia's policy performance with other OECD countries, an annotated bibliography of hard-copy material and a series of opinion surveys; these resources are not available from other online sources.

This project aims to improve two key areas of environmental policy by investigating the meaning of environmental justice and how it is best implemented. It will generate a significant new framework of the idea of environmental justice and offer innovative research that demonstrates what hinders and enables just policies in practice. Expected outcomes of this project include an updated and enhanced theory of environmental justice, a new understanding of the enablers and barriers to its implementation in practice, and recommendations to make policies on urban food security and energy transition more just. Overall, the project should provide the benefit of the development of more just policies on two key environmental issues facing Australia.

International experience confirms that reconciliation is a fraught and challenging endeavour. Many consider the formal reconciliation process in Australia to have been a failure, yet the need for a more effective engagement between Indigenous and other Australians remains pressing, particularly in light of a forthcoming referendum. This project will draw on international evidence and new empirical data to examine the Australian experience of reconciliation, asking how the process of reconciliation in Australia can connect to the attitudes of non-Indigenous people in ways that may prompt a deeper engagement with Indigenous needs and aspirations.
