    Police Leadership in the 21st Century: Redesigning Roles and Practices. Leaders are seen as exemplifying and guiding the climate of police organisations. This project will deliver comprehensive, comparative, and internationally relevant empirical data on the relationship between leaders' approach and behaviours and the achievement of outcomes in these significant, high profile public sector organisations. On this foundation the project will make recommendations on innovative institutional desi .... Police Leadership in the 21st Century: Redesigning Roles and Practices. Leaders are seen as exemplifying and guiding the climate of police organisations. This project will deliver comprehensive, comparative, and internationally relevant empirical data on the relationship between leaders' approach and behaviours and the achievement of outcomes in these significant, high profile public sector organisations. On this foundation the project will make recommendations on innovative institutional design to achieve ethical, effective and efficient policing capable of withstanding the challenges of the future. This will increase public confidence in policing, resulting in safer communities and improved crime control. This proposal contributes to the ARC research priority of Safeguarding Australia.

    New Police Management - From Command and Control to Collaborative Governance: An assessment of organisational change at Victoria Police. Changes in governance will be assessed and refined in order to assist Victoria Police to become more proactive and collaborative in achieving its strategic aims of intelligent, confident, community and partnership policing and thereby to make a difference to community safety over the next five years. Changes in governance will be assessed and refined in order to assist Victoria Police to become more proactive and collaborative in achieving its strategic aims of intelligent, confident, community and partnership policing and thereby to make a difference to community safety over the next five years. Proactive collaboration at all levels will help Victoria Police to protect communities from terrorism and crime in contemporary conditions and will assist in the safeguarding of Australia. More generally, the results of the project will assist the accumulation of research-based evidence to inform policy making based on the claimed benefits of decentralisation in police forces around the world.
