Investigating the functional interaction between vasopressin and angiotensin receptors. Kidney disease resulting from diabetes is a major health issue for Australians, and indigenous Australians in particular. This project aims to enable improved therapies to be developed, as well as better inform doctors regarding the use of potential combinations of existing pharmaceuticals to treat this condition.
New insulins for the improved management of diabetes. The prevalence of diabetes has increased dramatically over the past few decades and now this condition is widely considered the world’s fastest growing disease. New insulins with improved pharmacological and storage properties are desperately needed, and this project will work on chemical synthesis enabling designer insulins to be prepared for improved management of diabetes.
The combined use of proteomics and small molecules for target identification and pathway analysis. This project intends to investigate how a series of new small molecules identified from our research to improve the metabolic effects of insulin. This project will integrate medicinal chemistry with proteomics and metabolic biology to identify the cellular targets and their mechanism of action.
