Summary
Human papillomavirus (HPV)-induced oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma has a significantly better prognosis than that caused by tobacco and/or alcohol. The favorable prognosis is due to a better response to treatment with radiation therapy and chemotherapy but the exact mechanisms are still not clear.
