Summary
The overall aim of my research to assess noel therapeutic strategies in pancreatic cancer. Using new technology, more in depth understanding of pancreatic cancers (PC) is allowing better characterisation of these tumour into distinct molecular phenotypes. Some of these phenotypes are showing response to specific therapies in experimental models. Hence, there is an urgent need to to define these responsive phenotypes to stratify patients to appropriate therapeutic regimens.

Our aim is to find out what the problems related to organ transplantation are in order to suggest ways of intervening to help reduce these problems for patients and the health care system. We will work closely with the team at one of Australia's leading transplant centres at Westmead Hospital to try and find safe and economic ways to tackle issues of organ shortage, those that come up during the organ donation and in the wider care of patients improve the practice.

Diabetes occurs when the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin are destroyed by the immune system or fail to keep up with demand. We have developed a method for converting other pancreatic cell types into insulin producing cells. The proposed research aims to improve the efficiency of our approach and to test its therapeutic potential in preclinical diabetes models.
