Nature, culture and the challenges of environmental sustainability: bridging the science/humanities divide. Australian science currently receives considerable funding for excellent research on environmental issues. There is also significant investment in Humanities and Social Science research on Australian environmental attitudes and practices, and how these change. This proposal seeks to link the largely separate research conversations of the two traditions. Socially just schooling: a cross-cultural analysis of gender, cultural diversity and social change within Australia and the UK. The study will examine issues of gender justice, cultural diversity and schooling. Through cross-cultural insight developed from analysis of schools in Australia and the UK, the study will enhance policy and practice associated with socially just schooling.
From high school to higher education: Gendered pathways in information, communication and computer technology education. Serious gender-based disparities exist in participation in the Information, Communication, and Computing Technologies (ICCT) field, in both higher education and industry, with a 2004 review of Australian university participation rates identifying women as an equity target group in this field. Gendering Impact Assessment: a new framework for producing gender-inclusive policy. Much public policy lacks sensitivity to the differing needs of diverse women and men. The result can be ineffective policy, and policy that reinforces unequal gender relations. Fostering pro-environment consciousness and practice: environmentalism, environmentality and environmental education in Indonesia. This project aims to foster environmental awareness in Indonesia by investigating how some people have become environmentally aware, and by evaluating various environmental education and activism projects. This project will also identify types of education that have proven effective, analyse the reasons for their efficacy and make recommendations accordingly.
