Thinking brains and bodies: distributed cognition and dynamic memory in Australian Dance Theatre. Creative thinking, learning and memory - key features of human cognition - will be investigated in the context of dance in this project. Complementary quantitative and qualitative methods will shed light on process and communication in the Australian Dance Theatre and the arts more broadly, and inform new accounts of thinking as embodied and distributed.
Taste and community: the cultural origins of personal experience. This project explores how artistic value and meaning are attributed to artworks and how cultural artefacts and imaginative constructs may be seen to motivate ethical or socially oriented behaviour. It investigates this theme through an innovative new medium, involving a website and imagery, through which the expertise of philosophers and artists can be brought to bear on a social problem. Creative Antarctica: Australian Artists and Writers in the Far South. The project aims to make the rich history of Australian artists' and writers' engagement with Antarctica visible through an innovative combination of critical, curatorial, and qualitative research. It expects to generate new interdisciplinary knowledge of creative responses to the South Polar region. Anticipated outcomes include the first comprehensive history and analysis of the Antarctic stories, sounds, and images produced ....Creative Antarctica: Australian Artists and Writers in the Far South. Beyond the Stage: Interpreting history through performing arts practice. The project aims to examine the ways that performance is able to shape and challenge prevailing historical narratives in times of social upheaval. In particular, the project aims to document and interpret the impact of World War 1 on the performing arts in urban and regional South Australia. Archival research is expected to generate scholarly outputs, regional exhibitions, and research-informed performances.
Ibsen Between Cultures: The Australian Experience. This project offers three benefits to the nation. It will enrich our understanding of the unique development of Australian spoken word drama by comparing research findings on the incorporation of Henrik Ibsen's plays in our dramatic canon with parallel investigations in China, India, and Bangladesh.
