Who wins? Who loses? - The social values of Australian children's book awards. This is the first critical evaluation of the books selected by the Children's Book Council of Australia in their annual 'Book of the Year' awards. These books are present in libraries, schools, and bookstores across Australia. This project examines the extent to which these books promote particular social values to contemporary Australian children.
Frigidity in France: the history of a sexual pathology and of its place in feminist critique. The history of sexuality is an area of research which puts into historical perspective the disorders and abnormalcies which make up so much modern talk about sexuality. It helps to show that many of the supposed sexual problems which are central to modern thinking took shape only recently, and did so in particular circumstances. This is in fact a very active field of international humanities research, a ....Frigidity in France: the history of a sexual pathology and of its place in feminist critique. The history of sexuality is an area of research which puts into historical perspective the disorders and abnormalcies which make up so much modern talk about sexuality. It helps to show that many of the supposed sexual problems which are central to modern thinking took shape only recently, and did so in particular circumstances. A detailed, circumstantial history of frigidity will make it possible to question the 'science' which founds twentieth-century norms for female sexual behaviour. This project seeks to examine the responses made by three of the most important conservative thinkers of the modern age to the crisis in liberal values and democratic principles that took place between 1900 and 1945 in Europe and elsewhere. The theorists in question are Max Weber, Oswalt Spengler and Carl Schmitt. The Australian penal colonies and British print culture, 1786-1900. This project is the first comprehensive investigation of the literature surrounding convict transportation and the Australian penal colonies, and its relationship to British print culture in the nineteenth century. Grounded in empirical research, the project will foster a new understanding of a foundational aspect of Australian cultural history.
The Laboratory of Modernity: Knowledge Formation and the Australian Settler Colonies (1788-1900). Colonial Australia was a laboratory in which European ideas could be tested, raw data collected, and social experiments trialled, especially in managing settler, convict, and Aboriginal populations.
