The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

We bring together plant molecular biology, entomology and analytical chemistry to transform three leading fields of Australian research into an advanced science with far reaching capabilities in innovative research and applied outcomes. Expertise studying the biochemical pathways that produce specific plant compounds and expertise in insect recognition and response to these chemicals will be brought together. This will lead to new research outcomes and solutions to problems in agriculture, horticulture, forestry and protection of Australia's native flora. Researchers are struggling to create these links, constrained by disciplinary boundaries and geographical isolation. Key industries and researchers already support this proposal.Read moreRead less

For convict women sent to Australia, ?transportation? meant international travel. By mapping the convicts as travellers, this project will afford a new perspective on women whose convict itineraries radically affected the direction of their lives. Alert to the specifics of time and place, the project investigates the carceral and non-carceral experiences of women whose shared voyage as convicts was neither the beginning nor the end of their travels. The research involves a systematic cluster sampling of three ships which sailed to Van Diemen's Land while transportation was at its height: the Harmony (1829), Atwick (1838), and Elizabeth and Henry (1847). New Electronic Archives for Australian Literature. Information capacity in Australian literary studies has been dramatically expanded by national investment in electronic archives, while trends in the discipline increasingly demand empirical support for claims about literary history and literary value. At the same time, research about Australian literature remains primarily theoretical, insufficiently informed by newly available data. This project aims to further enrich the new data sets, and to ....New Electronic Archives for Australian Literature. Information capacity in Australian literary studies has been dramatically expanded by national investment in electronic archives, while trends in the discipline increasingly demand empirical support for claims about literary history and literary value. At the same time, research about Australian literature remains primarily theoretical, insufficiently informed by newly available data. This project aims to further enrich the new data sets, and to use them in an innovative return to the classical issues in Australian literary criticism and history. It will provide demonstration applications of data in new electronic archives.Read moreRead less

The expected outcome will be to establish a new research base for the writing and interpreting of 19th century Australian history as well as completing the objective of the original founder of the series, Frederick Watson, who in 1914 observed that "history in its truest form can be founded only on a careful and studied examination of the records themselves".Read moreRead less

This project plans to study the paths to citizenship for Chinese settlers in late 19th- and early 20th-century Australia, in comparison with New Zealand and Canada. From the mid-19th century, Chinese migrants to Australia sought to become citizens in their adopted homeland. The project intends to analyse naturalisation law and policy and use biographies and case studies to consider why and how Chinese became British subjects. The project expects to deepen historical understandings of the settlement of Chinese migrants by documenting their struggles for citizenship and rights. By exploring historical case studies it also aims to highlight the socio-economic benefits of naturalisation for the migrant and the nation.Read moreRead less

By investigating experiences of becoming a mother in Australia since 1945, this project intends to provide an historical perspective on mothering in the present. Over the past 70 years, Australian motherhood has undergone vast changes: the average age of becoming a mother has increased, sources of maternal advice have proliferated and maternity has become seen as optional rather than compulsory. The project aims to analyse how these shifts have affected the experience of adopting a maternal identity for several generations of Australian women. This project aims to illuminate the historical development of current debates, contextualising topical social issues such as optimising pre and post-natal health services and maximising the participation of mothers in the workforce.Read moreRead less

Travel writing is a key mechanism by which readers learn about other peoples and cultures, a genre that is crucial to the formation of identities, ideologies, and ideas. Australian travel writing provided foundational texts for those emigrating to the colony. This project positions Australian texts within an international comparative sphere. It will advance the understanding of colonial culture in Australia, and of the perceptions and values of those who settled colonial Australia. It will make available to Australian and international students and researchers a rich archive of texts that have not been previously mapped. Australians are keenly interested in travel and its literature, and this project brings colonial travel texts to public attention.Read moreRead less
