The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Development of a molecular flash memory for long-term, extremely high-capacity, unpowered data storage. This collaborative project with INTEL will demonstrate an array of Flash-RAM molecular-memory cells capable, at room temperature, of storing a terabit of data on an area of 2 square mm. This data density is more than four orders of magnitude greater than any commercially available technology and unattainable by conventional silicon-based electronics. We will design and optimize the memory cell, develop the synthesis method, synthesize arrays of the memory cells, and develop new molecular addressing technologies.Read moreRead less
Australian Marine Biodiversity As A Source Of New Drugs To Control Neurodegenerative Disease. With the aging of Australia's population the impact of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's is rapidly on the rise. There is an urgent need to develop new and better drugs to treat the symptoms and underlying cause of these debilitating diseases. Historically, the majority of the world's pharmaceuticals have been drawn from biodiversity (ie plants, microbes and animals). As one of the few megabiodiverse nations, Australia is ideally positioned to accelerate and focus the search for drugs from nature. This project will explore an exceptionally promising pool of Australian biodiversity, its marine ecosystems, as a source of inspiration for the development of new drugs to treat neurodegenerative diseases. At present the effectiveness of therapy for inflammatory disease of the gum tissue (periodontitis) is limited by the lack of a selective anti-microbial agent. The investigators have discovered a novel mechanism of binding of the blood product porphyrin by a unique receptor of a key pathogen implicated in this disease. By exploiting this knowledge a modified porphyrin linked to an antibiotic was shown to have a selective effect on the target organism. Refinement of this complex has the potential to provide a clinically useful, selective agent.Read moreRead less
Development of a Diversity-Oriented Synthesis Platform. Genomic, proteomic and other studies of the molecular basis of disease are providing a constant stream of biomolecular targets for drug discovery. Identifying suitable drugs candidates to affect these targets centres around procuring a suitable library of compounds for screening. This application addresses some of the key issues related to the development of appropriate compound libraries for such screening programs.

A key feature is that near atomic-level control will be achieved over the entire device structure, facilitating the establishment of a clear path towards the commercial production of solar cells that are simultaneously highly efficient, long lasting, flexible, and very cheap to manufacture.Read moreRead less
Structural modification of conus-derived venom peptides- A route to new therapeutics. Current product deficiencies in the area of pain management are forcing the pharmaceutical industry to develop new strategies for achieving analgesia and reduce their dependence on traditional, addictive opiate-based products. Structural modification of Conus derived peptides will provide exciting new leads for achieving effective analgesia.
Synthesis and Production of High Value Pyridines Combining the Concepts of Alternative Reaction Media and Process Intensification. This project aims to develop novel syntheses and process route for substituted pyridines by bringing together expertise in the fields of green chemistry and process intensification. Minimisation of waste, energy efficiency, and improved selectivity and control will be the key process and chemistry targets, which will produce high value compounds. Traditional approach ....Synthesis and Production of High Value Pyridines Combining the Concepts of Alternative Reaction Media and Process Intensification. This project aims to develop novel syntheses and process route for substituted pyridines by bringing together expertise in the fields of green chemistry and process intensification. Minimisation of waste, energy efficiency, and improved selectivity and control will be the key process and chemistry targets, which will produce high value compounds. Traditional approaches use organic solvents and preformed salts which are costly, generate waste and the processes are energy intensive due to poor selectivity, low yield and extensive separation steps. This is a generic investigation which will have wide ranging applications in the pharmaceutical, energy and advanced electronic industries.Read moreRead less
Application of process intensification on rotating surfaces (PIRS) in organic synthesis. Process intensification technologies in the form of SDP and RTP are new to Australia and present many opportunities for carrying out the synthesis of organic compounds. They have remarkable versatility in being able to control chemical reactions with greater selectivity than using classical batch technology, at the same time allowing access to new compounds. Moreover, the technologies embrace the principles of green chemistry in minimising the generation of waste, while operating under continuous flow which is destined to be more attractive to industry. This is likely in the fine chemicals sector, and in drug discovery. The project will provide first-rate research training and promote Australian science. Read moreRead less
