Social futures and life pathways of young people in Queensland: waves 4 and 5 of a longitudinal study. This project assesses the impact of globalisation on the attitudes, behaviors, and life pathways of a cohort of over 7000 young Queenslanders, first surveyed when they were aged 12 and 13. Participants will be followed up when they are aged 19 and 20 and 20/21 to examine their experiences of the transition from school to work, family and social life.

Summary
Events through time: eruptions, extinctions, impacts, ore-bodies and orogenies - upgrading the national argon geochronology network. Nine universities and the CSIRO will replace aged and obsolete equipment with new mass spectrometers which will be strategically placed at opposite ends of our continent to improve access for Australian researchers to these instruments for which there is high demand. This project aims to develop a unique understanding of what governs antibiotic use in the health sector and how it can be governed more effectively. The project will critically assess the implementation of governance, and how regulatory and legislative environments may resonate or contrast with the demands of practice. This will support the development of strategies to improve antibiotic use and reduce resistance.
Demographic consequences of Asian disasters: family dynamics, social capital and migration patterns. This study of the long term demographic consequences of Asian disasters will contribute to development of more effective governmental policies on disaster mitigation, preparedness and reconstruction/recovery, thus assisting to reduce the human and material losses from natural disasters.
Genetic discrimination in Australia: an exploration of the nature and extent of the phenomenon within the legal and social context. This project involves national, groundbreaking research into the newly-emerging phenomenon of genetic discrimination in Australia. Undertaken by a multi-disciplinary, cross-institutional team with a wide range of expertise, this innovative and topical research will investigate genetic discrimination across three key perspectives: consumers, third parties and the le ....Genetic discrimination in Australia: an exploration of the nature and extent of the phenomenon within the legal and social context. This project involves national, groundbreaking research into the newly-emerging phenomenon of genetic discrimination in Australia. Undertaken by a multi-disciplinary, cross-institutional team with a wide range of expertise, this innovative and topical research will investigate genetic discrimination across three key perspectives: consumers, third parties and the legal system. It will advance the existing knowledge base, both nationally and internationally, and establish comprehensive baseline data for further evaluative research. Important outcomes for each of the three sectors will be generated, as well as a comprehensive overview of this important new Australian social issue. School retention through alternative schooling: towards a socially just approach to education. This project is concerned with how mainstream schools may become more socially just and inclusive of all young people through an analysis of alternative schools specifically designed for this purpose. Such a concern is critical for lifting school retention rates of marginalised young people and improving practices in all schools.
