When immigrants and converts are not truly one of us: Examining the social psychology and developmental antecedents of marginalizing racism. Investigating a New Explanation of Discrimination Against Migrant and Excluded People. Migrants and socially excluded people are often the subjects of discrimination and prejudice. Our research will provide valuable knowledge about when and why people discriminate against migrant and excluded individuals as well as how this type of behaviour can be reduced. Human decision making is frequently sub-optimal and can be influenced by factors of which we are only dimly aware. At times, this sub-optimality produces large social, economic, and health costs. We address decisions made under low levels of awareness including those typically influenced by advertising and other marketing activities, such as pairing brands with images of attractive people. Human decision making is frequently sub-optimal and can be influenced by factors of which we are only dimly aware. At times, this sub-optimality produces large social, economic, and health costs. We address decisions made under low levels of awareness including those typically influenced by advertising and other marketing activities, such as pairing brands with images of attractive people. We examine the cognitive processes invoked by this pairing in order to determine how it competes with the provision of factual information. This project will investigate how external situations and internal cognitive and neurological mechanisms interact to facilitate or inhibit affective influences on judgments and behaviour. In focusing on implicit cognitive processing of environmental food and eating cues, this project addresses a factor that has hitherto been neglected in obesity research. The inclusion of a component that specifically addresses food-related cognitions has the potential to dramatically improve the success of weight-loss programs. The Business Council of Australia (2004) indicated its concern about the effects of short termism on Australia's future economic prosperity. We assess whether the attention managers give to the present and future when describing firms' strategies in annual reports has changed during 1992-2006. We assess whether the attention managers give to the present and future when describing firms' strategies in annual reports has changed during 1992-2006. One of the key effects of short-termism is to reduce firms' focus on innovation. The project offers a direct, unobtrusive indicator of the time frame firms use to shape their strategies. Such evidence helps policy makers decide whether policy action is required; investors determine the seriousness of the problem in different business sectors, and creates a strong foundation for pursuing further research into the possible causes.Read moreRead less
