Cinema and the Senses: Temporality of the films of Stanley Kubrick, Terrence Malick and Kumar Shahani. The resulting monograph, articles and seminars will provide new methodologies for Australian cinema studies which has tended to depend on Euro-American models. The project offers three distinct ways of thinking about an ecology of the human senses in and through cinema. The ideas on cine-synaesthesia would link up with current research on this topic in other disciplines such as neurophysiology, ....Cinema and the Senses: Temporality of the films of Stanley Kubrick, Terrence Malick and Kumar Shahani. The aim of the project is to apply a new methodology to the study of baroque and neo-baroque cultures, one grounded in sensory and spatial approaches. Representing Kanaks: Generic Variation, Identity, and the Politics of the Everyday Semiotic. The project hypothesizes that representational struggles over indigenous identity are crucially shaped by the range of genres in which identity is asserted. Through the case of Kanaks in New Caledonia, as represented by several everyday genres hitherto neglected by scholarship, the representational politics of indigeneity are interrogated with the aim of demonstrating that Kanak existence is constituted ....Representing Kanaks: Generic Variation, Identity, and the Politics of the Everyday Semiotic. The project hypothesizes that representational struggles over indigenous identity are crucially shaped by the range of genres in which identity is asserted. Our research into the mediated experience and expectations of globalization among 14-17 year olds in 12 countries is explicitly concerned with the possibilities of future world citizenship among the most highly networked generation to date. Its findings will be of ....Global Youth & Media - Notions of Cosmopolitanism in the Global Public Space. As Australia repositions itself in the globalized world of the 21st century, an understanding of new global communication spheres is increasingly important. Our research into the mediated experience and expectations of globalization among 14-17 year olds in 12 countries is explicitly concerned with the possibilities of future world citizenship among the most highly networked generation to date. Its findings will be of value to education, media and cultural policy makers in Australia. What some call military humanism, followed by democratic reform and human renewal have marked the recent and current histories of Kosovo, Bosnia, East Timor, Afghanistan and various African states. This project aims to deepen our successful multi-sited collaborative project, DP0345917. Humboldt's Institut fur Sozialwissenschaften has already begun a formal M.O.U. process with The Hawke Research Institute, University of South Australia. Detailed examination of Remote Indigenous Media Organisations will provide much-needed evidence of the role that community media organisations play in communications uptake and use in remote communities. The success of RIMOs further suggests that investigation at the organisational level may yield lessons for social development more broadly.
