The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

We need to reconcile the apparent differences in instructional practice between well-taught 'Asian' and well-taught 'Western' mathematics classrooms. If this can be achieved then best practice in one tradition can inform best practice in the other. An analytical approach based on the distribution of responsibility for knowledge generation is applied to well-taught classrooms in Australia and Korea in order to accommodate the effective practices of competent teachers in both traditions within the same explanatory framework. Only then will teachers in one tradition have access to effective practice in the other tradition in a form likely to sustain culturally-appropriate adaptation. The benefits to Australian schools will be considerable.Read moreRead less
A sociological analysis of ethnicity and compulsory schooling in NSW. Building social cohesion is a national priority. How is school socio-economic composition associated with student outcomes? A comparative study of seven countries. School socio-economic composition is strongly associated with educational outcomes for all Australian students. School socio-economic composition is strongly associated with educational outcomes for all Australian students. This association is problematic because it reduces educational equity and opportunity for students at low socio-economic schools, which in turn reduces Australia's ability to fully invest in its most valuable resource, its young people. The current Labor government is committed to investing in low socio-economic schools. This study will highlight ways to support low socio-economic schools by showing how they differ from more advantaged ones. Comparative analysis of educationally equitable and efficient countries will provide further evidence for ways to support low socio-economic schools in Australia.Read moreRead less

Focussing on social connections across racial and religious boundaries, the project directly addresses two areas of immediate national concern: young peoples' wellbeing, and Australia's relationship with its neighbours. The project will generate a new model of sustainable partnership across NGOs and learning institutions to provide youth-led, global education programs for school-aged youth, promoting learning from a local basis about global issues. In creating this shared evidence base the project will benefit two industry sectors (NGOs and Education) and facilitate the development of effective processes toward young people's greater participation in social life.Read moreRead less

Classroom Learning Project. This collaborative research program involving eleven countries and fourteen research institutions addresses optimal practice in mathematics classrooms internationally. The program centres on the collaborative analysis of videotape, interview, test and questionnaire data related to "well-taught mathematics classes" in participating countries. The program centres on the collaborative analysis of videotape, interview, test and questionnaire data related to "well-taught mathematics classes" in participating countries. Building upon the success of the Negotiation of Meaning Project (ARC Large, 1996/7/8) and the Learner's Perspective Study (ARC Large, 1999/2000/2001), the Classroom Learning Project brings together an expert international team and a data set of unprecedented scope and complexity to advance the theory of learning and teaching in mathematics in a form that supports wide scale international practical implementation.Read moreRead less

It reviews three decades of multicultural education and consolidates our national capacity to school for cultural difference and global citizenship.Read moreRead less
Globalisation and Teacher Movements into and out of multicultural Australia. Education underpins a cohesive and successful society, but today education is increasingly globalised. Education outcomes in the Northern Territory, particularly for Indigenous students, lag far behind those of other Australians, to the point that the situation can be considered a national emergency. This research program will explore ways to improve parental involvement. This will inform the Smith Family's efforts to undertake early intervention for children who are at risk of education failure. It will provide benefits to the rural and regional communities who feed schools in Darwin and Katherine and provide national benefits through making a significant contribution of anthropologically-informed knowledge on the determinants of successful school outcomes.Read moreRead less

. This Initiative creates an Educational Research Alliance (ERA) between three strong research domains in order to address the problem of how best to educate current and future generations in contemporary times. These domains have previously focused independently on new identities, new technologies, and new pedagogies and each has achieved significant but localised results. Examining the interconnections and relationships between these domains is necessary to promote the kind of scholarly innovation able to facilitate the creation of truly relevant, responsive, futures-oriented educational systems.
In taking up this challenge ERA adopts a cross-generational and cross-disciplinary approach to assembling an international research network.
