Wingara Mangami (to follow the dream of understanding): Seeding innovative intervention success to challenge and pracism for Inyouth. Intervention to combat racism towards Indigenous youth is vital given the pervasiveness and long-term consequences for academic failure, mental health costs and anti-social behaviour. Consistent with the priority of promoting andmaintaining good health and well-being, the study offers important educational and socio-economic benefits by enriching the psychosocial adjustment and life potential of Indigenous Australians. Effective intervention to address racism will enhance pro-social behaviours, self-concept, mental health, and school engagement of Indigenous secondary students and build capacity of non-Indigenous students to address racism and foster safer schools that contribute to individual, local community, and national well-being.

This project will contribute to Australian social cohesion through the non-divisive Indigenous Knowledge approach to the teaching of Indigenous issues. Building Teachers' Assessment Capacity to Engage Indigenous Learners. This highly significant study will provide much needed understanding about how to build more equitable assessment practices to address the major problem of underperforming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in regional and remote Australia. The anticipated outcomes will advance knowledge to include more culturally fair assessment practices. National and state policies now require teachers to use standards-referenced reporting which this study will explore using related intervention strategies. Pedagogic and assessment approaches to improve young Indigenous Australians' educational performance will help them succeed in schooling and in acquiring skills for a more secure economic, social and cultural future.
