A Study of the Fulbright Program in Australia 1949-2009. This history of the Fulbright Program of educational exchange between Australia and the USA will explore a significant and undervalued aspect of the post-war relationship between the two countries. This project is a transnational study of women from Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the Philippines who participated in educational exchange programs with the United States in the mid-20th century. This project aims to re-discover, interpret and share knowledge about the role and value of faith during the gold rush, and on the goldfields until today. Encouraging Australians to respect faith adherence has never been more urgent, and recent events in Bendigo illustrate the social cost of religious intolerance. Anzac Day at home and abroad: a centenary history of Australia's national day. Australia is fast approaching the centenary of Anzac Day and many believe this is the one day of the year that captures the spirit of the nation. This project will examine Anzac Day's complex and much contested history, retrieving private and collective memories of war through archival research and novel and participatory public history.

Australia's social and economic fabric will be strengthened by incorporating the organisations and experiences of the inter-war Chinese Australian community into Australia's history of citizenship and civic participation. A history of press photography in Australia. Press photography has long influenced how Australians have understood themselves and their world. In collaboration with the National Library of Australia and the Walkley Foundation, the project explores the evolving role of photographs in breaking news, and historical shifts in photographic technologies, media practices and ethics.
The Burke and Wills Scientific Expedition 1860-61: the Aboriginal story. This study will provide the first systematic history of Aboriginal associations with the Burke and Wills expedition and subsequent relief expeditions. It will reveal a rich and varied narrative that includes such things as their interactions with expedition members, the use of Aboriginal foods and methods of preparation, and Aboriginal guides.
Human kind: transforming identity in Australian and British portraits 1700-1900 in the National Gallery of Victoria. The National Gallery of Victoria's outstanding collection of Australian and British portraits, spanning the Enlightenment and the dawn of Federation, say much about this nation's cultural evolution within a global context. This project will produce the first interdisciplinary study of these portraits, enabling their online publication and extensive educational programs.

This project brings political, economic and social history together with a feminist analysis to explore the Australian Council of Trade Unions' significance in shaping modern Australia. Positioned within a national framework of labour politics and economic restructuring, and an international context of Cold War adversarialism, the project goes beyond the ACTU's key role in workplace bargaining to an assessment of its inte ....The Australian Council of Trade Unions in the Making of Modern Australia. This project brings political, economic and social history together with a feminist analysis to explore the Australian Council of Trade Unions' significance in shaping modern Australia. Positioned within a national framework of labour politics and economic restructuring, and an international context of Cold War adversarialism, the project goes beyond the ACTU's key role in workplace bargaining to an assessment of its international profile and the impact on the organisation of a feminising labour market and emergent women’s leadership. In an innovative study that highlights the Hawke era to show the ACTU's history as one of transition to governance, we aim to reveal the potential of the Australian labour movement to effect change.
