The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Cellular Pathogenesis Of Key Proteins Involved In Neurodegenerative Disorders
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$312,730.00
Summary
Prion proteins are involved in neurodegenerative diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). The aim of this research proposal is to investigate factors which can change the prion protein from a normal, benign, form into an abnormal shape which can cause disease. The outcomes of this work will provide further insight into the role of prion proteins in these diseases and also for other neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.
Identifying Genetic Risk Factors And Elucidating The Underlying Mechanism(s) Of Parkinsons Disease
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$85,855.00
Summary
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder affecting 1% of people over 65. This innovative research seeks to discover new genetic risk factors that affect disease development. This provides the capability for genetic screening to identify individuals at risk for PD so preventative measures can be employed at an earlier stage. This information will also provide insights as to how the disease occurs and suggest drug targets to improve current partially effective therapy.
The Role Of The Complement System In Neurodegeneration And The Therapeutic Potential Of Complement Inhibition
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$380,558.00
Summary
This project aims to identify the role of immune and inflammatory components in the pathology of neurodegenerative disease. Additionally, this research will determine whether a new class of novel anti-inflammatory drugs can alter the neurodegenerative process. This will allow for an increased understanding of the biology of neurodegenerative disease, and also may lead to the development of new treatments for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and motor neuron disease.
Healthy Heart, Healthy Brain - Using Genetic Data To Investigate The Causal Relationship Between Cardiovascular And Neurodegenerative Disease
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$191,261.00
Summary
There is growing evidence supporting a strong association between cardiovascular disease (CVD) with neurodegenerative disease. However, evidence from observational studies has been inconsistent. This project will use genetic data to investigate this link. The project outcomes may point to new avenues for research and prevention, whereby lifestyle modifications pharmaceutical interventions which decrease CVD might also hold promise for reducing the burden of neurodegenerative disease.
