CyberMate: using digital social media and Internet data to support mental health interventions in young Australians. This project will develop CyberMate, which is a novel automated psychological intervention based on data collected from social networks, personal diaries, natural language processing and machine learning techniques. The Internet-based intervention will be the first of its kind, helping young people affected by depression and other mental health issues.

Spoken conversational search: contextual interactive techniques to support effective information search over a speech-only communication channel. This project will develop new techniques for effective information search using speech only, supporting improved information access for visually impaired people or in situations that require focused visual attention (e.g. driving). The techniques are based on a conversational approach to information search and presentation of results.

This project aims to develop a new coastal hazard early-warning system capability for Australia, to alert coastal communities, emergency managers and coastal engineers to impending storm wave damage and coastal erosion. Emergency preparedness informed by early warning is expected to significantly benefit vulnerable communities and infrastructure along Australia’s coasts.
