Excavating MacGregor: re-connecting a colonial museum collection. Sensing the impacts of colonisation, the first Administrator of British New Guinea William MacGregor made a significant collection of objects specifically for its future citizens. This comprehensive legacy of 13 000 objects did not remain in the country but was dispersed to three Australian and six overseas museums. One of archaeology's most significant contributions is providing models for the emergence of cultural diversity through time. Vanuatu is one of the most diverse regions on Earth. The southern islands were an important hub in early settlement and long-term inter-island interactions of Island Melanesia. Chinese indentured labour in the colonial Asia Pacific region, 1919–1966. This project aims to investigate the abolition of Chinese indenture in the Asia Pacific region after 1919. It intends to investigate whether labour standards set by the International Labor Organization (ILO) were able to influence and overcome the European colonial preference for coerced migrant labour. Reconstructing the human colonisation of the Pacific using modern and ancient chicken DNA. We will reconstruct one of the last great human migrations, from Island Southeast Asia across the Pacific to Hawaii and Easter Island, using DNA from the domestic chicken, which was carried on the voyage. Ancient and modern DNA, and archaeological data will be used to reveal the source, route, timing, and whether contact was made with South America

Around 50 000 years ago, people crossed the Wallace Line and set foot on Sahul (Pleistocene Australia-New Guinea) for the first time. Rapid dispersal across the Sahul continent followed during a period of climatic deterioration. Subsequent human impacts on the landscape are well preserved in the fossil record, particularly plants.
