To reduce Australia's future dementia burden, it is imperative to develop methods to identify those Australians at the very early stage of dementia. To achieve this goal, we are establishing multidisciplinary research projects to track disease progression from the very early stage. These projects use cutting-edge neuroscience technologies to examine how the mind and brain change in dementia. My goal is to discover novel methods for early detection, and develop early intervention strategies.

Summary
Osteoporosis (OP) prevalence is greater for disadvantaged groups, as are less healthy lifestyles. Whilst reasons for this social gradient of OP are unknown, some biological phenomena are influenced by lifestyle factors. I will provide novel evidence about biological mechanisms underlying the social gradient of OP (epigenetics), and, using that information, engage disadvantaged communities in multidisciplinary discussions to inform effective public health interventions (community engagement).

Summary
Biostatistics is a critical component of health and medical research, especially for studies in population health. However, there is an increasing gap between supply and demand for high-level biostatistical input. This proposal combines novel methodological research into methods for analysing incomplete data, with collaborative research applying new ideas and complex analyses to important health problems. The fellowship will facilitate my development as a future leader in this key area.
