The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

The Theory and Measurement of Stock-Market Indices. This project should promote an innovation culture in Australia by

Australian universities as centres of cutting-edge academic
research, provide a thesis topic for a PhD student, and help build

House Prices in Australia: A Hedonic Analysis. House prices are an important input to monetary policy since they impact directly on inflation and may be a source of speculative bubbles. The Governor of the Reserve Bank, however, recently described housing as the ``weakest link in all the price data.'' This project will attempt to resolve this problem. The resulting indexes should be of considerable interest to the Reserve Bank, the media, home owners, the real estate industry, and enhance the reputation of Australian universities. They will also quantify the extent of the burden imposed on young people by rising house prices, and its consequent strain on society.Read moreRead less
Job vacancies in Australia. The objective of this project is to improve understanding of available measures of job vacancies in the Australian economy, and how those measures can be applied to study the operation of the labour market and in forecasting macroeconomic outcomes. It will increase knowledge about the appropriate use of alternative measures of vacancies, and how those measures have been affected by changes to methods of job search and hiring with the advent of the internet and labour ....Job vacancies in Australia. It will increase knowledge about the appropriate use of alternative measures of vacancies, and how those measures have been affected by changes to methods of job search and hiring with the advent of the internet and labour hire agencies. The significance of the project derives from the important role of measures of vacancies in labour market and macroeconomic analysis in Australia.Read moreRead less
The dynamics of job creation and job destruction in Australia. The research outcomes will deliver benefits in the improvement of labour market policy. Special focus will be on the impacts of structural change, trade liberalisation and the role of small business. The research will fill major gaps in the literature by providing new insights into job creation and destruction processes and the consequences for unemployment, at levels of disaggregation and in sectors not previously studied, notably, full-time/part-time; public/private; the service sector; as well as demographic variability.Read moreRead less
Planning the 'creative' city: reconciling global strategies with local subcultures. Increasing land values in all major Australian cities are placing pressure on local creative initiatives. Displacement of small cultural producers and the consequent dispersal of local networks is damaging to the urban social and economic fabric. This research will assess the challenges to strong and thriving creative subcultures in gentrifying cities. By identifying cases of best practice in Australia, and with reference to similar practices overseas, the project will expand the range of regulatory and negotiating tools available to state and local governments to maintain their valuable creativity and local cultural diversity.

The Impact of Hiring and Firing Costs on Wages and Unemployment. Hiring and firing costs are a crucial part of intense debates over relationships between labour market flexibility, wages and unemployment. However, we have little information about their levels and structure. Using a new theoretical model of the impact of hiring and firing costs, together with information from a large-scale survey of Australian firms, this project quantifies their impacts on wages and unemployment. However, we have little information about their levels and structure. Using a new theoretical model of the impact of hiring and firing costs, together with information from a large-scale survey of Australian firms, this project quantifies their impacts on wages and unemployment. Better information about these impacts will contribute to current policy on training, unfair dismissal laws, and regulation of overtime. Efficiency gains from better policy will be a major national benefit, together with improved prospects for unemployed Australians.Read moreRead less
Incentives and performance in the health care system. Changes in financial incentives for health care providers will have direct effects on their behaviour, which in turn influences patients' health outcomes, quality of care, and access to health care for the population. Changes in financial incentives for health care providers will have direct effects on their behaviour, which in turn influences patients' health outcomes, quality of care, and access to health care for the population. The research will provide a richer understanding of the effects of incentives, and will influence policy on the design of incentives for health care providers in Australia. Changes in incentives will ensure patients receive more appropriate, higher quality, and less costly health care, in the most appropriate settings, and delivered by the most appropriate health care providers. This will have direct effects on population health and well-being and the capacity of individuals to lead healthy and productive lives.Read moreRead less
Categories of employment and unemployment patterns in the Sunshine Coast Labour Market: a regional study. The aim of this project is to provide information on how a local labour market (LLM) works. The aim of this project is to provide information on how a local labour market (LLM) works. It will be the first such Australian study to look at marginally attached workers and atypical employment, both of which are increasing segments in the Australian labour market. The outcomes will provide strategic input for the industry partners in policy reviews of education and training programs, adjustments to changing employment circumstances, and regulation of employment. The study is innovative in design as it explores a social capital dimension of labour market behaviour.Read moreRead less

In health cost-effectiveness or cost-utility anlaysis is common, avoiding specification of a value for life. In contrast the transport and environment sectors use cost-benefit analysis and value life in monetary terms. This duality of approaches has resulted in a lower implicit value of life in the health sector. The research will explore these differences and attempt to identify key attributes that influence how life is valued, to provide a framework for a single approach to the valuation of life, and the more efficient allocation of resources cross-sectorally.Read moreRead less
