2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Prevention Of Otitis Media With Probiotics In Indigenous Children

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $100,531.00
    Summary
The project is searching for ‘good’ bacteria in the upper airways of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (A&TSI) children that have the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria that causes middle ear disease. These ‘good’ bacteria constitute a possible probiotic and will be matched to commercially available probiotic strains. These probiotic strains will then be used to recolonise the upper airways of A&TSI children to determine whether we can reduce the recurrence of middle ear disease.

Vaccine And Antibiotic Selective Pressures On The Microbiology Of Otitis Media In Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Children In Northern Australia

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $88,502.00
    Summary
Investigating the influence that pneumococcal vaccines and specific antibiotics have on the bacteria in the nose which cause otitis media (OM), to determine the most effective prevention and treatments to reduce OM in Indigenous children.

Developing Salient Messages For Indigenous Tobacco Control In Rural Aboriginal Smokers

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $117,331.00
    Summary
I am a General Practitioner with a keen interest in smoking cessation particularly for Aboriginal people, who have a high rate of smoking. Media messages are not to date being completely effective in this group, so I am investigating how to make more relevant and persuasive messages to support Indigenous smokers and their families (importantly pregnant smokers) to become smoke-free and encourage them to use effective treatments to do so.

Molecular And Structural Determinants Of Myocardial Dysfunction And Prognosis In Left And Right Heart Failure.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $124,608.00
    Summary
The aim of this research is to investigate the role of inherited genetic variation on myocardial function and prognosis in patients with cardiomyopathies as well as pulmonary hypertension. Clinical, cardiac genomic and myocardial tissue studies will be undertaken in various patient cohorts. It is hoped that this research will provide new insights into disease mechanisms, and will contribute to new approaches to patient management and risk stratification.

An Integrated “omic” Approach To Neurodevelopmental Disorders Using Disease-discordant Monozygotic Twins

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $84,800.00
    Summary
This project targets neurodevelopment disorders such as autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy and epilepsy and focuses on studying the environmental factors (epigenetics) affecting the disease mechanisms in these disorders. The study will be performed on twin samples and will help in the diagnosis of the disease risk at an earlier stage. It will also help to understand the causes of these important neurological diseases.

Peritoneal Metastases From Colorectal Carcinoma: Exploring The Potential Of Immunotherapy As A Treatment Adjunct

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $89,197.00
    Summary
Twenty percent of patients with bowel cancer have disease involving the lining of the abdomen, called the peritoneum. These patients do poorly. The majority are inoperable, and chemotherapy has poor response in these patients. Therefore, there is a dire need to explore new treatments. Newer drugs that stimulate the immune cells to fight cancer have shown promise in other cancers. We aim to assess the potential of this treatment in peritoneal disease, with the aim of improving patient outcomes.

Impact Of Cognitive Training On Improving Emotional And Cognitive Function: Testing Predictors And Moderators Of Treatment Response In Twins.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $97,419.00
    Summary
This project evaluates the effectiveness of a web-based cognitive training tool, MyBrainSolutions, in improving emotional and cognitive function over acute (30 days) and long-term periods (1-year). The impact of the cognitive training on both trained and untrained real-world functions will be investigated, as well as the minimum time commitment required to see improvement. Host Cell Signalling During HTLV-1 Infection: Novel Insights And Interventions

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $62,335.00
    Summary
Human T-leukemia virus 1 (HTLV-1) establishes a life-long infection and causes cancer and immune dysfunction. This study aims to find a cure for HTLV-1 by inducing the specific death of infected cells using novel therapeutic drugs that target host cell death pathways. Dead infected cells are then naturally cleared from the system along with the viral infection. The impact of HTLV-1 infection on tuberculosis severity will also be examined.

Exploring The Immune Landscape Of Anal Squamous Cell Carcinoma And The Therapeutic Utility Of Immunotherapies

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $48,791.00
    Summary
Anal cancer has been on the rise without improvements in patient treatment or survival over the last three decades. Immunotherapy which uses a patient's immune system to combat cancer has demonstrated great success in the treatment of several tumours, and consequently demands investigation for patients with anal cancer. This project is focussed on examining the immune system's role in anal cancer, and whether immunotherapies can be used to improved treatment response and patient survival.

Clinical Genetics Studies Of Speech And Language Disorders In Large Families.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $160,368.00
    Summary
Childhood speech and language disorders are common and may have negative long term outcomes. We have a limited understanding of what causes these disorders, which impacts our ability to manage and treat those affected. This project will utilise large families to investigate causes and clinical features of speech and language disorders. This is an exciting and relatively under-research area, and has the potential to lead to improved outcomes for children affected with speech and language disorder ....
