The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Detection and Quantification of General Fetal Movements from Accelerometer Measurements using Nonstationary Signal Processing Techniques. There are approximately 1,750 fetal deaths per year in Australian with about one-third occurring late in gestation and without an apparent cause. The development of an automated system capable of long-term monitoring of fetal health will result in accurate diagnoses and prediction of future outcome. This will, in turn, allow early intervention by the clinician to reduce fetal deaths and enhance the chances of good outcomes with resultant savings in social and financial costs to the community. The development of such equipment would spawn future research into intervention treatments and contribute to Australia's position as a world leader in computerised health monitoring systems.Read moreRead less
Multi-Channel Time-Frequency Analysis for EEG Neonatal Seizure Characterization. This project researches new signal processing methodologies for a multi-channel characterization of seizures for use in diagnosing newborn brain dysfunctions. The outcomes will result in important immediate clinical benefits for sick newborn babies and will fundamentally facilitate research progress in the development of neuroprotectants and anticonvulsants. The success of this project will contribute in minimizing ....Multi-Channel Time-Frequency Analysis for EEG Neonatal Seizure Characterization. The success of this project will contribute in minimizing the social financial costs by diagnosing brain disorders in the initial stage of life and preventing further damage. This has the potential to result in a standard diagnostic equipment in neonatal intensive care units and medical research centres.Read moreRead less
Design of Neonatal Seizure Diagnosis Methods Using Time-Frequency Signal Processing Techniques. Seizures occur in approximately 0.5% of all newborns. They are often the only indicator of an early dysfunction in central nervous system (CNS). Their occurrence raises concerns about the underlying cause, its effect on the brain, and the appropriate treatment. Newborn seizures are mostly sub-clinical and only detected through the Electroencephalogram. For an efficient diagnosis, seizure classification systems were proposed based on visual observations. This project proposes developing a novel approach to automate the classification process using time-frequency (TF) signal processing techniques based on the multi-channel characteristics of the seizure; namely: A) TF signature B) origin, and C) propagation behaviour.Read moreRead less
Learning strategies for personal agents to assist professional users in searching the Web. Many professional groups have large unmet information needs, with significant consequences for the public. Many professional groups have large unmet information needs, with significant consequences for the public. We will take a novel strategy-based approach to the design of agents that assist humans in information search tasks, which represents a significant departure from the dominant paradigm of content-based retrieval. Our goal is to develop automated methods to learn task specific search strategies, embed them in agents, and use them to guide human-agent interactions and search behaviours. To discover the effectiveness of our approach we will evaluate our methods with health care professionals.Read moreRead less

Pathology/radiology Informatics has emerged as an arm for developing next-generation pathology/radiology reporting methods, databases, imagery, and diagnostics. Current report archiving systems are very primitive, restricting any sophisticated use of the reports. This proposal aims to develop an innovative pathology/radiology report archiving system capable of automatically extracting useful information from reports. This system will make a smart use of pathology/radiology data and open a new way to extend current tests and examinations from being disease-focussed to being wellness focussed. It will also significantly reduce the number of tests, i.e., associated cost for healthcare.Read moreRead less

The biomedical sciences produce literature at an exponential rate, and the size of this knowledge base far exceeds the capacity of humans to keep up with the growth in new knowledge. This project will develop computational text summarisation methods to abstract the content of scientific journal articles reporting clinical trials, and develop multi-document summarisation methods to synthesise these abstracts using automated statistical meta-analysis methods. These methods have broad potential to improve text-summarisation technologies in general, to profoundly enhance our ability to integrate published knowledge, and to make a highly significant and specific contribution to improving the quality of evidence used in health decision-making. The overall goal is to produce technologies that will enable the home to be a ?intelligent, caring advisor? and provide operational effectiveness for people with decreasing functional capacity (eg aged). It can monitor and support activities of varying complexity without compromising a normal lifestyle, enabling people of varying abilities to be independent, whilst being cared for by their homes. This caring will range from advice systems for detecting hazardous situations and alerting the user, through to detecting subtle deviations from complex, normal activities over significant periods of time (such as caused by the onset of an illness).Read moreRead less

Improvements to quality and use of evidence-based methods in residential aged-care are restricted due to the very slow adoption of electronic information systems. This research will provide key investors, government, aged care providers and IT vendors, with tools to measure success in introducing IT into this sector. The project will create a platform with the national peak body, to disseminate lessons in successful implementation of computerised systems in residential aged-care, based on studies in two states. The studies will also benefit the international community researching technology adoption, by extending its boundary condition to a novel setting.Read moreRead less
