The ubiquity of the Internet offers far reaching opportunities for emerging Web applications. Separate businesses may be linked into a virtual enterprise that provides a one-stop shop for users. However, there is no model available for managing electronically accessible services (e-services) in a systematic manner which make them easy to compose and deploy. Our research proposes to address the fundamental issues related to fast and scalable composition of e-services in Web-based environments. We propose novel concepts for integrating a large number of dynamic and loosely coupled services. Another distinctive feature of our approach is the peer-to-peer collaborative execution of services.

This project aims to develop inaudible, high-capacity audio watermarking techniques to trace the illegal copying and distribution of multimedia data containing a sound component, such as audios and sound videos. With the rapid growth of communication networks and the use of advanced multimedia technology, digital multimedia data can be easily copied, manipulated and distributed. This has led to strong demand for new techniques to prevent illegal use of copyrighted data. The project is expected to advance the theory of audio watermarking and enhance Australia's international competitiveness in this field.

A provable privacy-preserving data sharing system for the cloud environment. This project aims to develop an innovative data sharing system, with a mathematically provable privacy guarantee, in a cloud environment. This will be adopted by Australian Education Management Group’s (AEMG) cloud campus to exchange data in a restricted privacy manner between partner institutions. It will be commercialised as a middleware that can be plugged into existing cloud environments to maintain required privacy even when the cloud crosses various jurisdictions with different privacy policies. The outcomes will benefit educational organisations, and lay the foundations for data sharing in other communities such as the government, banks, and other industries in Australia.

Due to Australia’s unique geographical distribution and population density, many regional or remote areas lack infrastructural support and development, including telecommunications and electricity supply. It is important to provide information and communication services in such infrastructure-deficient environments. In this project, we will develop a first-ever commercially ready Fog information system, or FogIS in short, to enable localised information and communication services, while preserving users' privacy, in infrastructure-deficient environments. The deployment of this system will bring great benefits to Australia’s economic growth, the quality of life, cybersecurity, and environment control in rural and regional Australia.

Web services are the pillar of the new generation of Internet technologies. They provide standardized access to functionality that would otherwise be hidden inside enterprise information systems. As the existing base of web services expands, there is a need for techniques to select, configure, assemble, and coordinate web services to perform complex user tasks. This project will advance the fundamental understanding and know-how in this area by addressing three complementary research challenges: how to, organize and search semantically rich service descriptions; select services with respect to flexible and personalized criteria; and coordinate services in an adaptive and context-aware manner.

Web service composition technology promises to revolutionise the way in which organisations interact over the Web. However existing environments for the composition of Web services are too complex to use and are usually intended for experienced application developers as they rely either on scripting languages, or on a process-modelling notations intended to be used by IT experts. However, the need for customised composition of Web services is likely to emanate from non IT-experts. The project aims at designing, implementing, and evaluating an environment for the specification and execution of composite Web services by non-expert.

Privacy-preserving Web Services Composition. Web services composition is emerging as a promising technology for the effective automation of business-to-business collaborations. It allows organizations to form alliances by connecting their applications and systems, in order to offer ``one-stops shops'' for their customers. However, several important issues (e.g., security and privacy) need to be properly addressed before Web services technology meets the requirements of critical applications such as e-goverment. This project aims at providing privacy preserving Web services composition techniques. The anticipated outcome of this project is a service composition framework that provides seamless interoperability between different Web services without violiating citizens and organisations privacy.
