The NEURINOX project aims at identifying novel therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases; an increasing health issue for the ageing Australian population. NADPH oxidases (NOX) enzymes, generate reactive oxygen species, and are key regulators of neuroinflammation. Inflammatory dysregulation is characterized by a change in NOX activity. Summary
Treatments for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) often have unsatisfactory outcomes. The limited ability of the body to repair damaged nerve tissue highlights a critically important need for MS patients. The long-term goal of our research is to develop a stem cell-based therapy that halts disease progression and repairs damaged nerve tissue. Research efforts will refine techniques to make safe and clinically-compatible cells from human stem cell lines and verify the therapeutic activity of these cells.

Young people in out-of-home care have experienced traumas and adversities. They are highly vulnerable to mental ill-health and associated problems with relationships, education and meaningful activity. The project aims to deliver evidence-based mental health support and care across the health and community service system relevant to these young people in Victoria. The aim is to work in partnership to reduce the risks of mental ill-health and support more effective treatment and recovery.
