Diarrhoea is a leading cause of death and disease globally, largely attributable to unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene. River water is a common water source in India, but water quality is often compromised by contamination. Riverbank Filtration technology (RBF) is an inexpensive means to improve water quality. This project will investigate the health benefits of improving water quantity versus improving water quality using RBF technology in six rural Indian communities.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) affects many Australians. We will undertake a prospective study comparing standard IBD clinic outpatient management with a technology enabled self management (eHealth) platform for patients with mild to moderate IBD in relation to disease activity, medication status, psychological distress and quality of life. Patients in the eHealth intervention arm will be stratified according to risk and treated via algorithms according to standardised evidence-based medicine.

Chronic low back pain is the most disabling condition worldwide. Two objective measures of brain function, electrical signals of brain activity (electroencephalography), and attentional bias observed with eye tracking technology will be measured in a group of participants with acute back pain. Resources exist to assist clinicians in the management of OA, but give little or no attention to falls.The association between OA and falls supports the need to incorporate falls prevention strategies into routine OA care. This project aims to reduce falls and fall-related harm in people with OA by creating a list of recommendations for preventing falls that can be incorporated into current OA resources and routine OA care.
