A Consumer Bankruptcy Project - an interdisciplinary empiric inquiry into determinants and impacts of bankruptcy upon Australian debtors. The research will enhance the wellbeing of Australian society by obtaining a better understanding of the profile of bankrupt debtors, the reasons for personal default and the impact of the regulatory framework upon all stakeholders. It will draw parallels with US trends and apply an interdisciplinary empiric method to Australian personal insolvency data. In doing so, we seek to reconceptualise the meaning of sovereignty, how that meaning has changed over time according to a variety of historical conditions, and the implications of this for traditional Westphalian conceptions during a time when state authority is increasingly challenged by an array of new actors. The impact of crime on the mental wellbeing of communities. Considering not only the direct impact of crime on the victims but also the indirect consequences of living in a community with a higher crime rate may in fact lead to a more accurate analysis of the size of the consequences of criminal activities on the society. Further, it may also be the case that the negative externality of crime on non-victims is much larger for some crimes than for others. Expand the capacity of an international multidisciplinary research network focussed on the ethical, legal and social implications of emerging biotechnologies. This project will ensure that Australia plays a central role in international debates and research activities aimed at regulating and facilitating advances in biotechnology. The project will also provide Australian researchers with direct access to key international experts in the field.

The incorporation of humans as decision-makers into a complex system comprising of many autonomous agents is becoming increasingly important in areas such as defence, search-and-rescue, special emergency services, bush-fire and ecology management. This project will address how human decisions are made in such systems through the formulation and demonstration of innovative algorithms which model the operator decision making process.
