At a time of widespread criticism of the role of the media in informing and enabling Australian democratic processes, this study explores the perceptions of ordinary Australians about the performance of the variety of media forms in which politics is reported, analysed and discussed.

Our people, our pictures, our voices: community representations of the Queensland land rights struggle, 1966-2010. This project tells the story of the Queensland land rights struggle through the eyes of Indigenous participants, their media and the broader newspaper industry. Its key public outcome is a multi-faceted book on the land rights movement; and new methodological and critical media analysis contributions to community media research.

This project aims to measure the volume and quality of visual content on regional news platforms by diverse publishers in eight key geographic areas. It is the first in Australia to examine the full cycle from production through presentation to consumption for local visual news in a regional context. Plain language practices in an Australian local government organisation. Governments have unsuccessfully tried to eliminate bureaucratic language from their documents for many years. This project will examine a local government organisation's writing practices to discover why plain language has not been achieved and recommend strategies to address the problem in the researched organisation and at a broader scale.

This project examines an emergent series of tactics used by political actors (i.e. politicians, lobbyists, political groups, etc.) that we are calling 'Dark Political Communication' (DPC). DPC differs markedly from existing, well-established modes of political communication, as it often involves the deliberate spread of disinformation, use of highly inflammatory language, antagonism towards the press and democratic institutions, as wel ....Understanding and Combatting 'Dark Political Communication'.
