Application of new statistical techniques (temporal network analysis) will combine with in-depth focus groups to show how improvisation excellence depends on a mix of artistic craft, networked collaboration and institutional support. This knowledge will assist music venues and industry in nurturing improvisation as a cultural force and commercial opportunity for export and tourism attraction post Covid-19. The novel method, integrating computational network analysis with qualitative research, will also inform and build capacity for future understandings of cultural fields and industries.Read moreRead less
The impact of location-specific urban digital social information networks and public displays on the City of Melbourne. The purpose of this project is to enhance the city as a vibrant destination by taking digital content and anchoring it in the physical world. The outcomes will be physical nodes of interaction in urban cultural hubs - e.g., museums, libraries, cafes - allowing users to post media, stories and events that are locally relevant for others to consume.

Improved and more accessible rating systems across a variety of activities should encourage the general public to take a greater interest in the mathematics, statistics, information theory and machine learning behind the systems. With Cadability as our Australia-based international industry partner, the global use of these systems will be to Australia's economic advantage. Having a more accurate rating system which is wider-reaching both in the number of sports and games and the number of participants per sport and game should also encourage greater participation from the general public.Read moreRead less

Electromagnetic field strength simulator (ELMO) for RF hazard assessment. There is significant community fear related to exposure to mobile telephone radiation. The computer program ELMO will be designed to accept information about all RF transmitters in the vicinity of cellular telephone towers from an existing database, and to calculate the total field strength. This will allow hazard assessment for both RF technicians working on the tower and adjacent residents.
Packet Based Multiservice Traffic Support in a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access Network. This project will investigate the problem of multiservice traffic transmission on 3G (Third Generation) WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) based wireless networks. In particular, this work will study the problem of supporting multimedia traffic sources such as audio, video and data using the variable rate transmission techniques to maximise traffic capacity of a wireless network. The project will also develop a comprehensive discrete event simulation model of a WCDMA based wireless network to study the performance of the network using different advanced traffic sources.Read moreRead less
Locating Interference to GPS: Protecting the World's Aircraft Landing Systems. GRAS is an enormous initiative that is expected to generate billions of dollars in exports for Australia. The equipment developed in this project will protect the system from radio frequency interference. It thus protects these exports, and creates a new exportable product. By protecting this system, it makes air travel safer both in Australia and in the countries that buy this Australian technology.
