Transnational environmental crime: applying network theory to an investigation of illegal trade, criminal activity and law enforcement responses. This project investigates illegal environmental trade, one of the fastest growing areas of transnational crime, and explores how governments and other actors can best develop effective law enforcement responses. It will expand our understanding of an under-researched field and strengthen the regulatory capacity of Australian government agencies.

Australian diasporas and brain gain: exploring current and potential transnational linkages. The research will investigate current and potential future roles of diasporas in both Australia and overseas in facilitating trade and investment. The study will examine their political, cultural and kinship ties with homelands and map the geography of seven diasporas in Australia. This will provide new data that describes the character, motivations and movements of diasporas in Australia. The growth of Chinese foreign direct investment and its impact on developed-country regulation and Chinese institutions. This project will study the growth of Chinese foreign direct investment globally, identifying its causes and drivers, and the link between foreign investment and the liberalisation of the Chinese economy. This project's findings will inform the elaboration of Australia's policy response to Chinese direct investment.

Prevailing visualisations of humanitarian crises are powerful but problematic. They often focus on violence and depict victims in stereotypical and dehumanising ways. The project develops new evidence-based visual strategies through interdisciplinary collaborations with leading industry partners in Australia and internationally. The epidemiology of canine gastrointestinal parasitic zoonoses in different community settings in Thailand. The dog's role in transmitting zoonotic gastrointestinal parasites to humans has been recognised as a significant public health problem worldwide. Surveillance data with regard to canine parasites in Thailand and its regional countries is largely lacking, especially with regard to the dog's role as a perpetuator of the liver and intestinal flukes.
