The impact of disasters on armed conflicts. This project aims to conduct a comprehensive, cross-case study on the effect of major disasters on the intensity of ongoing armed conflicts. The numbers of natural disasters and of armed conflicts are on the rise, yet little is known about the interactions between both phenomena. This project aims to address China’s One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative, utilising the concept of heritage diplomacy to interpret the role culture plays in shaping trade and diplomatic relations. This project expects to develop new knowledge about 21st Century diplomacy and the political drivers of heritage preservation today.
