Regardless of these changes, humans will still be communicating using
diagrams and sketches. But unlike today where diagrams are static,
lifeless objects reflecting their origin in print media, the computer of
the near future will provide more flexible visual computer interfaces which
support adaptive layout, user interaction and semantics based retrieval.
Based on geometric constraint solving, this project will provide a
generic computational basis for this radically new view of diagrams.

Large amount of web services were pulled down worldwide by the DDoS attacks, with huge losses in business. Effective approaches to defeat DDoS attacks are desperately demanded. Most existing DDoS defense systems aim to only protect the victim network and are not fully integrated. In this project we propose a novel defense system to protect web services from DDoS attacks. Our system is one of the first systems that have a mixture deployment in both victim end and attack source end, and integrated capabilities of intrusion surveillance, traffic control, and traceback, thus achieve better control results over other mechanisms.Read moreRead less

This project addresses a problem of real concern in relation to national and state government policies for promoting an innovation culture and economy. This project does this at the base level of schools by creating effective education learning environments that will encourage creative and innovative citizens of the future. This detailed examination of the collaborative design process and the day to day functioning of the physical setting, including the use of smart technologies, focusing on stakeholder needs for 21st Century success, will assist in identifying the role of intelligent design in assisting a schools to deliver education for innovation.Read moreRead less

The combination of theoretical and practical outcomes from the research will enable these technologies to be applied in decision-making settings beyond those studied directly in the project. The project contributes to Australia's ability to compete in the emerging international market for knowledge-based software applications. The project's key connections and integration with European research will also strengthen research collaboration and training opportunities for Australian based students. Read moreRead less

This project aims to develop new techniques that are more easily adapted to specific applications than current methods. There are a range of benefits in developing this technology including but not limited to: improved mapping of terrorist networks that can aid early identification of security threats; improved design and analysis of communication networks, either for the telecommunications industry or for emergency and disaster management scenarios such as bushfires; improved access to biological network databases used in the study of metabolic processes critical to drug development and genetic research.Read moreRead less

This project aims to develop design tools for hybrid games that combine technology with tabletop play. Through a detailed examination of successful hybrid boardgames and an iterative, human-centered design and evaluation process that explores embedding novel sensors and tools into boardgames, it will explore the design, use, and experience of hybrid games. Expected outcomes include design of innovative and reusable components, a framework for understanding technologies that enable hybrid play, and a theory-based design methodology. Benefits include innovation in the tabletop game sector, fostering social connections for distanced families, and new applications of games for simulations in health, defence, and logistics.Read moreRead less
Co-designing Innovations in Digital Storytelling with Older Adults. This project aims to investigate how emerging technologies can be leveraged to provide innovative ways for older adults to create and share their life stories to foster social wellbeing. Later life can be a time of considerable change, leaving people feeling disconnected from the people, places, and life events that are important to them. Autobiographical storytelling can help create links with one's past, but little is known about how technologies such as digital games and virtual reality can be used to enable older adults to share stories about their lives in a way that supports ongoing social interactions. This project is expected to co-design new forms of digital storytelling to improve social wellbeing of older adults. Read moreRead less

This project will generate fundamental new knowledge in respect of how to effectively design an inclusive justice system, bridging the gap between the legal system and human-computer interaction. Expected outcomes include how to use technology to implement a more just, efficient, and fair legal system, which is accessible to all Australians. This should provide significant benefits for both Australian society and the legal system.Read moreRead less
Flexible user-guided network layout for biomedical applications. This project will develop techniques for automatic layout of biological network diagrams, allowing users to guide the layout while satisfying any required placement constraints and drawing conventions. As part of the project, these methods will be integrated into several real-world systems biology applications for network browsing and authoring.
