Summary
Robotics Research Network (RRN). The RRN brings together all the best robotics research groups in Australia with the aim of fostering and coordinating cooperative research. The RRN integrates researchers from fields including machine perception, sensing, control, artificial intelligence and mechatronics. The RRN includes representation from twelve Universities, CSIRO and involvement of four ARC Centres. ARC Centre of Excellence - Vision Science. This Centre will generate important new knowledge of the performance, logic and stability of vision and visual behaviour. This knowledge will help reduce the burden of vision impairment in Australia, increasing productivity, promoting healthy ageing and reducing the community costs of visual impairment (ca. $9.85 billion in 2004). The knowledge produced will also make possible world-class innovations in robotics, leading to novel automated vision system ....ARC Centre of Excellence - Vision Science. Spoken conversational search: contextual interactive techniques to support effective information search over a speech-only communication channel. This project will develop new techniques for effective information search using speech only, supporting improved information access for visually impaired people or in situations that require focused visual attention (e.g. driving). The techniques are based on a conversational approach to information search and presentation of results.
Optimisation of embedded virtual complex systems by re-using a library of available components. Nowadays, there are benefits in building complex embedded systems, such as a house surveillance agent, by re-using and combining available modules, such as cameras, blinds, phones, lights, etc. Because complete construction may be impossible, this project devises methods for automatically achieving the desired system to the highest-degree possible.
Integrated Planning for Uncertainty-Centric Pilot Assistance Systems. This project aims to deliver a novel pilot assistance system to improve the viability, speed and safety of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) and Search and Rescue (SAR) missions.
