Customising weather index insurance for agribusiness using machine learning. This project aims to customise weather index insurance (WII) by utilising machine learning techniques. WII is used as a type of risk management tool in the agriculture sector to transfer risk due to extreme weather events. Significantly this project expects to establish an accurate correlation between insurance payouts and actual losses and thus improve the WII uptake rate. Social media in times of crisis: learning from recent natural disasters to improve future strategies. This project will analyse and evaluate how social media was used by emergency authorities, media organisations and citizens during recent natural disasters, including the January 2011 Queensland floods and Tropical Cyclone Yasi. The project will develop a framework for longer-term strategies for public communication during emergencies.

Rapid change across society has resulted in shifts to the scope of social science research including the emergence of space and place as an important concept. Across research fields the result has been that a range of innovative and unique techniques, methodologies and theories that are space based are now being developed. While research is progressing rapidly, it is undertaken in parallel by researchers who can not always collaborate. ....Spatially Integrated Social Science Research in Australia.
