The failure of women prisoners to make a successful transition back to the community is one of the most significant problems of modern penology. Woman to Woman is an innovative mentoring and post-release support program developed by the Victorian Association for the Care and Resettlement of Prisoners. Understanding the nature and characteristics of youth violence in Australia. This study addresses the important problem of violence in Australian youth and the need for early intervention/prevention to limit further reoccurrences and escalation of violence across the life span and its associated economic and health costs. Community variations in crime: A spatial and ecometric analysis. Collective Efficacy (CE) is a new theoretical construct (that has never been investigated in Australia). It is a task-specific process for mobilising social capital to tackle specific neighbourhood problems. Research in Chicago finds that communities with high levels of CE experience lower levels of violence regardless of poverty levels. Computer-assisted 3D morphometrics for human identification. This project anticipates the rapid adoption by security services of comparative 3-D facial morphometrics for the identification of "persons of interest" and the concomitant creation of large databases of such characteristics. Anatomical knowledge will be used to refine new Japanese software which semi-automatically matches 3D facial landmarks and morphology between suspect and database and to validate its use in Australia. This innovative program of research is designed to establish an empirical foundation for understanding and responding to extremist violence in Australia. It aims to examine risk and protective factors for such violence, the needs of those susceptible to committing such acts, and the effectiveness of intervention.
