To re-vitalize the research base of early Australian history by resuming the research, editing and publication of Historical Records of Australia, Series III and also to initiate, in similar form, the research, editing and publication of Historical Records of Australia Series I (Despatches and Documents relating to New South Wales), with the aim of completing Historical Records of Australia in approximately 60 volumes.
