This study proposes to provide an innovative Virtual Organisation perspective to identify factors that can assist Australian government agencies to maximise the potential benefits from Enterprise System (ES) implementation. Study aims include: Identify and explicate major characteristics of the Virtual Organisation created through collaboration between government agency and (external) ES Implementation Partner; Identify and document features and constraints peculiar to ES implementation in the Australian public sector; Identify and explicate factors impacting on benefits realisation, relating these to theory from related fields; Highlight consensus and difference among stakeholders; Develop a validated, repeatable methodology for major impact studies; Inform ES research directions.Read moreRead less
Reconceptualising the information system as a service. Through parallel efforts in Australia and China, the study aims to propel 'IS-Impact', the Australia-originated and most extensively validated IS success measurement model, to become the Information Systems evaluation approach of choice globally, in both research and practice.
Service Ecosystems Management for Collaborative Process Improvement. Australian government agencies currently explore opportunities for streamlining their business processes. A promising approach relates to the improvement of cross-agency processes based on service-enabled technologies. This project will use requirements within Queensland Government for the design of a service ecosystem and methodological and management concepts to derive a general framework for intra-organisational ecosystems. ....Service Ecosystems Management for Collaborative Process Improvement. Though the focus will be on government processes, the project will generalise beyond this scope for a wider uptake of service ecosystems in Australian organisations. This will lead to reduced process costs and risks and will leverage the exploration of new revenue streams, e.g. shared services and reward schemes.Read moreRead less

Developments in the area of business process management are currently hindered by the plethora of diverse business process execution languages. This project will develop techniques for dealing with interoperability issues induced by this language heterogeneity. The project combines theoretical research, grounded in concurrency theory and workflow patterns, with pragmatic research focusing on languages supported by commercial tools. The outcome will be a framework for comparing the expressiveness of process execution languages and defining mappings between them. This will place Australia at the forefront of developments in business process management systems: a crucial technology in today's global, dynamic, and heterogeneous environments.

Australian e-Research Grid. The e-Research Grid program will research and implement core Grid technologies on APAC and partner's deployed HPC resources, to underpin a broad range of Australian research. The computer science CIs will form collaborative links with international programs, adapting developments to local circumstances. The applications-domain CIs will leverage those into their scientific simulations and databases, using grid integrative techniques and portals. Many CIs participate in ....Australian e-Research Grid. Many CIs participate in other RNs linking to their motivating applications, enhancing prospects for research and integration. They participate in the APAC Grid program, leveraging 75 HPC staff nationally. A key aim is interoperability with "real-world Grids": eg e-learning & e-health programs.Read moreRead less

The aim of the project is to generate theoretical knowledge on how to govern agile teams effectively. Effective governance of software development projects is essential for companies to protect their information technology investments. Nowadays, companies have migrated to agile software development where requirements and solutions evolve iteratively and change frequently; yet formal approaches to governance (eg steering committee and detailed plans) are ineffective and impede flexibility, agility and creativity. This project aims to identify informal governance approaches for agile projects based on team embeddedness and network theory. With this knowledge, management could ensure projects deliver value at an acceptable cost, quality and timescale.Read moreRead less
Transforming Banking Service Delivery Through Connected Communities. This project aims to develop a deeper understanding of the potential that the increased connectedness between customers has for organisations in the services sector. The massive uptake of social technologies demonstrates the high demand for connectedness. However, to date corporations and their customers have insufficient means to utilise such communities. Using the banking sector as an example, the project's outcomes intend to ....Transforming Banking Service Delivery Through Connected Communities. This project aims to develop a deeper understanding of the potential that the increased connectedness between customers has for organisations in the services sector. The massive uptake of social technologies demonstrates the high demand for connectedness. However, to date corporations and their customers have insufficient means to utilise such communities. Using the banking sector as an example, the project's outcomes intend to show how digital communities can improve the delivery of services and facilitate new co-delivery and brokerage models.Read moreRead less
Tracing real Internet attackers through information correlation. If this research accomplishes successfully, it will be a big step forward on tracing Internet attackers in terms of traceback scope, accuracy, usability and deployment. This will empower authorities to control and punish Internet crime and terrorism. It will also greatly reduce the damage caused by Internet crime and terrorism. The prototype of the distributed information correlation tracing system can possibly be patented or even ....Tracing real Internet attackers through information correlation. The prototype of the distributed information correlation tracing system can possibly be patented or even be commercialised. The capability of a nation to trace the real source of any attacks on its information infrastructure is central to the control of such attacks and hence to a nation's long-term survival and prosperity.Read moreRead less
Resolving the Alignment Issue between Business and Information Technology in Organizations. How to align a firm’s IT resources with its business needs attracts much attention in organisations, and hence in IS research. To date, however, work in this area has been principally atheoretic, and sometimes inconsistent. This project seeks to resolve theoretical inconsistencies to provide an internally consistent explanation on how to achieve alignment, and thereby improve business performance. This project advances knowledge by engaging in: the first multi-theoretic study of how IT alignment evolves; the first comparison of institutional theory, punctuated equilibrium theory, and complexity theory; and the first study that combines a dual-case methodology with simulations in IS research.Read moreRead less

Queensland Health and itSMF recognise there is a need to transform the crucial IT infrastructure of Australian industries by disseminating frontier technologies such as ITIL. This project addresses the complex interactions of benefits, performance metrics and methods to enable CIOs and IT service managers to measure and realise the benefits of improved IT service management. The outcomes of this project will compel organisations to implement practices and processes that significantly reduce risks. The large public and private investment in IT infrastructure will be more wisely managed and maintained and Australian organisations will benefit through more effective use of productivity-enhancing technology.Read moreRead less
