Summary
Crime and change in urban communities: a longitudinal study of violence, community networks and the collective capacity for action. This project examines the community contexts that influence the spatial variation of violence over time. It will identify the structural conditions of the community that cause crime and the mediating effects of dynamic community processes. The results will identify the critical factors that lead to the persistence or cessation of violence.
ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course. The 2020 ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course (LCC2020) aims to deliver transformative research and translation to break the cycle of deep and persistent disadvantage for Australians. Critically, LCC2020 will tackle disadvantage in specific context to understand how people negotiate it daily in real places, and how best to design policies and programs that support improved life pathways. This project aims to explain the changing patterns of regional economic performance across Australia between 2001-2011 in the context of two developments: major structural shifts in world trade and commodity prices spawning massive mining growth and negative exchange rate impacts elsewhere (for example, manufacturing); and the financial crisis ending the credit boom leaving east coast economies struggling. Tackling social inequality in Indian schools. This project aims to investigate whether affirmative action education policies can assist in breaking down social inequality. It will do so by exploring the lived outcomes of India’s Right to Education Act, which requires private schools to provide free education for underprivileged children. Based on long-term fieldwork, this project is expected to identify factors that contribute to inclusivity in private schools, and to generate fine-grained data ....Tackling social inequality in Indian schools.
