Deciphering new regulators of lipid metabolism: a focus on lipid droplets . Lipid droplets store lipids in cells and the mitochondria break down this lipid to generate energy. Both organelles are critical for energy metabolism and cell survival. This project aims to determine the proteins that regulate the interaction between mitochondria and lipid droplets, and how these proteins regulate metabolism. It is anticipated that this project will identify the essential components of lipid droplet-mit ....Deciphering new regulators of lipid metabolism: a focus on lipid droplets . It is anticipated that this project will identify the essential components of lipid droplet-mitochondria interactions and their impact on regulating cellular lipid metabolism. The intended outcome of this project is to provide fundamental new knowledge in understanding how organelles interact and how lipid metabolism is regulated. This knowledge has applications for the primary industries and biotechnology sector.Read moreRead less

Summary
Mapping the genetic and lifestyle landscape of Healthy Ageing. This project aims to dissect how genes interact with the environment to control healthy ageing using a multidisciplinary approach combining state-of-the-art omics technologies, metabolic and ageing phenotyping and genetic analysis and a highly diverse model system. The project is expected to establish fundamental new understanding of the ageing process by identifying genes that regulate ageing either alone or in response to diet; by ....Mapping the genetic and lifestyle landscape of Healthy Ageing. This project aims to dissect how genes interact with the environment to control healthy ageing using a multidisciplinary approach combining state-of-the-art omics technologies, metabolic and ageing phenotyping and genetic analysis and a highly diverse model system. The project is expected to establish fundamental new understanding of the ageing process by identifying genes that regulate ageing either alone or in response to diet; by defining the mechanism by which such genes control ageing and by identifying biomarkers that predict different ageing outcomes. This knowledge will contribute to future strategies based on genetic testing and biomarkers to optimise healthy ageing in humans. Read moreRead less
Molecular networks underlying mitochondrial biogenesis in humans. Mitochondria are essential for life, and we propose a highly-innovative approach (employing multiple, cutting-edge ‘omic’ technologies and bioinformatics) to advance the fundamental understanding of how mitochondria respond and adapt to exercise in humans. The project outcomes should include significant new knowledge and advanced expertise that can be used by others to facilitate additional research outcomes. The project anticipa ....Molecular networks underlying mitochondrial biogenesis in humans.
