Nation, Race, Rights and the New World Order, 1945-1966. Given the beleaguered status of international organisations, the postwar universal human rights agenda, and race relations, the history of the ideas of nation, race, and rights is ripe for an analysis that seeks to understand the formative post-Second World War period. This project is an historical sociological study, which examines the unfolding Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse alongside past Inquiries into child maltreatment. It explores how changing understandings of children's development, vulnerability and rights have shaped social policy, educational responses and public attitudes towards safeguarding children and promoting their ....Childhood maltreatment and late modernity: public inquiries, social justice and education. Food, Farming and Financialisation: Agri-food Transformations in Australia. Through interviews and document analysis, this project aims to examine the ways financialisation is transforming agri-food industries in Australia. Financialisation – the growing presence of financial firms in contemporary economic relations – is an increasingly important, yet poorly understood, concept. Through interviews and document analysis, this project aims to examine the ways financialisation is transforming agri-food industries in Australia. Financialisation – the growing presence of financial firms in contemporary economic relations – is an increasingly important, yet poorly understood, concept. Its application to food and farming industries is very recent. By investigating which countries and foreign firms are purchasing food companies and farmlands, for what purposes, and with what outcomes, the project intends to ascertain the place of financialisation in the emergence of a third food regime and to clarify issues of ownership and control of Australia’s agri-food resources. This would provide policy-makers and the public with accurate information with which to assess whether agri-food investments strengthen national food security, provide positive benefits to rural communities, and comply with national investment guidelines.Read moreRead less
Youth identity and educational change in Australia since 1950: digital archiving, re-using qualitative data and histories of the present. This is an historical and longitudinal study of Australian youth and education since the 1950s. It creates a digital archive of the study for future researchers and re-examines earlier qualitative studies to better understand generational changes in youth pathways and educational inequalities.
The social and environmental implications of privately regulated food quality standards for agri-food networks in Asia-Pacific. This proposal will contribute to an environmentally sustainable Australia in two ways. First, the research will highlight barriers to the uptake of environmental standards among fruit and vegetable growers as well as potential strategies to encourage certification. Second, the research will assess the extent to which compliance with internationally harmonised standards ....The social and environmental implications of privately regulated food quality standards for agri-food networks in Asia-Pacific. Indonesia is recognised as a leading producer of moderate Muslim scholarships, reconciling Islam to modern, pluralistic political life, but little is understood of how cosmopolitan values permeate everyday religious practice. The Salmon Ponds and the Development of an Acclimatisation Culture and Landscape in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania. The Derwent Valley, Tasmania, is both an economically depressed rural area and one of the most special and richly endowed colonial landscapes. This project will assist in developing and restoring its status as a touring and angling landscape for tourists by researching and reconstructing its making through the acclimatisation network centred on its cultural and technical hub at Salm ....The Salmon Ponds and the Development of an Acclimatisation Culture and Landscape in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania.
