Online violent extremist audiences in Australia and the United Kingdom. This project aims to develop an understanding of the role and influence of the internet on violent extremism. Its focus is on the changing political economy of overseas news production, including the role of international news agencies, between 1860 and 1910. It analyses technological, economic, political and cultural factors affecting overseas news availability and the extent and forms of its publication in Australian newspape ....Overseas news in the press in Australia and its conditions of production: 1860-1910. This project is the first major historical study of overseas news in the press in Australia. Its focus is on the changing political economy of overseas news production, including the role of international news agencies, between 1860 and 1910. The lived experience of digital exclusion. Low-income single-parent Australians need to participate in the digital economy in order to access essential services, including health, education and work. However, recent research has highlighted a new dilemma: while this group cannot afford not to be connected, at the same time they are struggling to afford quality internet access. This will be the first detailed qualitative study of this under-served social group, revealing the negotiations, savings ....The lived experience of digital exclusion. However, recent research has highlighted a new dilemma: while this group cannot afford not to be connected, at the same time they are struggling to afford quality internet access. This will be the first detailed qualitative study of this under-served social group, revealing the negotiations, savings, and workarounds required for low-income single-parent households perform to participate in the digital economy. Participatory public space: a right to the networked city. The National Broadband Network (NBN) is the largest single public investment in Australian history. This research seeks to understand how digital networks such as the NBN can contribute to improvements in civic life. Improving participation in public space can address problems such as social isolation, enhance citizen empowerment and develop a sense of collective belonging.
An investigation of the early adoption and appropriation of high-speed broadband in the domestic environment. The success of the National Broadband Network (NBN) depends upon its adoption by Australian households. This project will examine the NBN in the domestic environment across two first-release sites, and will make a significant evidenced-based contribution to an assessment of this important initiative over its crucial first years.
