Adolescents becoming delinquent online. The project aims to provide a longitudinal criminological study of adolescent Internet use in the world. The Internet is a pervasive influence in young people's lives and is increasingly viewed as a significant factor in the incidence of criminal activities including cyber-bullying, computer hacking and radicalisation. A History of Intimate Relationships in Scotland: Emotion and Family among the Lower Orders, 1661-1830. This project will provide a comprehensive and novel analysis of intimate relationships amongst the Scottish lower orders between 1661 and 1830, filling a gap in the European/Anglophone research on the emotional lives of the poor. It will use an innovative methodology to access emotions amongst a group who did not leave traditional 'feeling' sources, such as letters and diaries, to create a pict ....A History of Intimate Relationships in Scotland: Emotion and Family among the Lower Orders, 1661-1830. Understanding and preventing gun violence: A qualitative study. Gun violence causes significant harm across Australian communities. Excluding sexual assault, firearms feature in nearly one in 10 violent crimes. The annual costs of gun violence run into tens of millions of dollars. This project aims to make an original qualitative contribution to understanding and preventing gun violence in three contexts: drug dealing/trafficking, other organised crime activity, and armed robbery. It brings questions of gender, gender-difference, and the relation of both to public life and power to the fore of its analysis. William Blackstone: Life and Works. The life and works of William Blackstone (1723-1780) have been largely overshadowed by his enormously influential Commentaries on the Laws of England. This project will deploy new evidence to explore Blackstone's elusive personal life and diverse public roles, as academic activist and administrator, architect, historian, law reformer, legislator, linguist, literary critic and scholar, politician and judge. Antipodean Geology: A Modern History of Southern Hemisphere Earth. This project aims to produce a modern history of the ancient mega-continent Gondwanaland. An international team intends to reorient the history of geosciences towards the southern hemisphere by investigating geologists working in Australasia, South Asia, South America, Southern Africa and Antarctica since 1788. This includes analysis of how Gondwana fossils came to fuel the industrial age. The team also aims to explain how, why a ....Antipodean Geology: A Modern History of Southern Hemisphere Earth. This project explores links between Australia and India between 1880-1925 and posits that India and Indians provided a foil against which Australians operated as they forged their nation and an Australian identity. It explores links around trade, religion, tourism , travel and the development and operation of the White Australia Policy to demonstrate the 'Othering' of India, but also the circumstances where closer understandings developed. Using unique archives of individual level political information, this study explores the idea of political identities and the ways ordinary citizens in nineteenth century America established their place in political life. Nine carefully chosen case studies allow examination of political participation and partisanship in settings traditional and modern, urban and rural. The project asks how, and whether, a democratic theory arising from a politics of rural localism retained meaning for citizens in very different social settings. Understanding how political identities were created in the past may help us identify ways to increase the saliency of politics in ordinary lives today.
