2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

    Research Fellowship

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $621,458.00
    Summary
This fellowship support will allow A/Prof Xiao-Jun DU to pursue his recent pre-clinical research findings on novel therapeutic interventions for cardiovascular diseases. He will particularly focus on new treatment of accumulation of excessive scar tissues (fibrosis) in the heart and large arteries following disease and cardiac inflammation, factors knowing to play pivotal roles in progression of cardiovascular diseases.

Improved diagnosis and therapeutic targeting of platelet-specific receptors mediating arterial thrombosis can save many lives given the prevalence and severity of disease.

    Practitioner Fellowship - Grant ID:1020926

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $458,326.00
    Summary
Heart failure (HF) describes where the heart cannot pump adequately to meet the bodyÍs needs. Mortality remains high; therefore, there is an urgent need for new treatment approaches. The present grant aims to: (1) evaluate treatments for patients at high-risk for future development of HF (2) examine the ability to safely withdraw unnecessary HF drugs (3) focus on the effect of HF on the kidney via novel treatment strategies (4) examine the emerging role of cancer drugs in development of HF.

Improving Outcomes In Heart Failure Through Basic, Clinical And Translational Research

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $951,005.00
    Summary
Heart failure (HF) is a common, chronic cardiovascular condition characterised by a reduced capacity of the heart to function. Patients with HF have a poor quality of life and significantly reduced survival. My proposed programme of research will improve the understanding of heart failure (HF) and lead to better treatments.

Exploiting Existing Data Sources To Improve The Prevention And Treatment Of Cardiovascular Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $772,490.00
    Summary
My program of research exploits several large databases to answer important issues in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which makes a huge contribution to the burden of illness and premature mortality in Australia. An underlying aim is to provide the evidence base to facilitate improvement of the existing CVD risk assessment guidelines in Australia, for better targeting of clinical advice and treatment.

Identifying And Developing Novel Therapeutic Approaches For Heart Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $638,517.00
    Summary
Increasing rates of obesity, diabetes, and an ageing population increase the risk of heart disease & complications including heart failure (HF), atrial fibrillation (AF), and diabetic heart disease. There is a clinical need for i) improved therapies for patients with HF, AF, and diabetic heart, and ii) biomarkers which more effectively recognise people at risk of heart disease, to prevent clinical events. My research program is designed to develop novel therapies and identify new biomarkers.

Identifying The Genetic And Environmental Causes Of Congenital Malformation

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $774,540.00
    Summary
Birth defects are common, devastating and costly to families and to society. The cause is unknown in 80% of cases. This research is helping families by finding the gene mutations that cause birth defects. Gene discoveries, in some cases, will highlight environmental factors that are important for normal embryo formation, such as oxygen levels and dietary components. By identifying gene and environmental factors associated with causing birth defects, we hope to ameliorate or prevent many cases.

Too Much Sitting And Too Little Exercise: Addressing Chronic Disease In Ageing Populations

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $863,910.00
    Summary
Better approaches to type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and breast and colon cancer are needed for middle-aged and older Australians. It is well-known that their health can be improved by regular exercising, but this has so far proven to be difficult for the majority. Through researching an ‘activity spectrum’ approach involving less sitting and more-varied real-life activities, Professor Owen and his team will identify practical new ways to prevent and manage the burden of these chronic diseases.

Molecular Approaches To Cardiac Development, Disease And Regeneration

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $863,910.00
    Summary
Prof Harvey’s work explores the molecular and cellular networks that underpin heart development in the embryo and heart regeneration in the adult, and how these networks unravel in heart disease. Based on this knowledge, his work seeks to develop novel approaches for alleviating suffering in babies with congenital heart defects and adults enduring the devastating consequences of heart attack or heart failure.
