Summary
The majority of people with stroke live in low and middle-income countries, with little or no access to stroke rehabilitation. This trial aims to demonstrate that a low-cost, family-led rehabilitation program can increase independence after stroke. This collaboration, involving Australian, Indian and UK researchers will involve 12 hospitals in India and coordinated by the George Institute for Global Health and the Indian Institute for Public Health.

Summary
This project provides a solution to the burden musculoskeletal disorders in Australia. We will implement a novel clinical pathway of care that uses simple questionnaires to determine whether people will recover simply or require complex care. If simple, we provide people and their healthcare practitioner with guideline-based information developed by our expert team. If complex, we refer them to an expert physiotherapist who can undertake more complex assessments and direct care appropriately.
Reduction Of Breast Lymphoedema Symptoms Secondary To Breast Cancer: A Randomised Controlled Trial

Summary
Breast lymphoedema is a consequence of treatment for breast cancer that is not typically discussed, despite more than 1/3 of women with lymphoedema reporting symptoms in the breast. To date, no study has investigated the impact of exercise on breast lymphoedema symptoms. The aim of this study is to determine if a general exercise program is safe, acceptable and effective in reducing symptoms for women with breast lymphoedema.
Improving Arm Function After Stroke Using Task Specific Training

Summary
85% of the 15 million people in the world annually who have a stroke cannot use their arm for basic tasks like eating and toileting. With usual health care services, 60% of stroke survivors still have non-functional arms 6 months after stroke. More effective treatments are needed. Task-specific training may improve arm and hand function more than usual care. We will conduct a multicentre randomised controlled trial to test whether task-specific training is more effective than usual care.

Summary
Low back pain is the leading cause of disability in Australia, with an enormous cost burden for society. Available treatments have resulted in only moderate improvements that typically do not last. We propose to investigate the clinical- and cost-effectiveness of two new treatments that have shown promising early results: i) an individualised movement and cognitive rehabilitation approach (‘Cognitive Functional Therapy’) and ii) biofeedback from wireless movement sensors worn on the spine
