Summary
Although we know how to manage the complications and care for pregnant women affected by Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) health outcomes for these women remain poorer than other women in Australia. Women with FGM are dissatisfied with their maternity care and health professionals lack skills. This project aims to improve maternity care for FGM affected women by implementing women centred guidelines to assist communication between women and health professionals and ensure shared decision making.
Exploring The Value Of Telehealth In Primary Care: A Controlled Trial Within The Royal Flying Doctor Service

Summary
This project will evaluate how telehealth services can partially replace expensive fly-in fly-out primary care services for people living in remote communities through reduced waiting times for appointments and significant savings related to the use of aeroplane and staff travel. The study will examine the patient and staff experiences of the change, providing important lessons to guide future development of telehealth not only for rural communities but also for primary health care in general.
Mental Health First Aid Training for Teachers: Development, Evaluation and Dissemination. The project aims to provide teachers with training that will assist them to recognize mental health problems which are developing in students and to take appropriate action so that the student gets professional help.

Summary
It is widely accepted that women and couples should be given balanced information to help them make informed choices about undergoing tests to screen for, and diagnose, genetic conditions such as Down syndrome. Current information, however, requires high reading levels and is not suitable for low literacy groups. This research aims to develop and evaluate information to support women and couples with lower education and literacy in making informed choices about prenatal screening and testing.
