Young women's experiences of cigarette smoking: a qualitative examination of the intersection of gender, class, cultural and sexual identity. The effects of smoking unique to women, the slow decline in women's smoking rates and the lack of anti-smoking strategies that are sensitive to gender, social class, cultural, and sexual identity means that this project addresses a significant issue for young women smokers, the Australian government and the health and wellbeing of Australians.

This project aims to examine practices of alcohol and tobacco use among lesbian, bisexual and queer-identifying (LBQ) women, which are considerably higher compared to heterosexual women. By using an innovative, longitudinal qualitative approach, this project expects to generate new knowledge regarding the cultural and social forces that shape higher rates of alcohol and tobacco use among LBQ women, and to better underst ....Alcohol and tobacco use among lesbian, bisexual and queer identifying women. Caring for the carers: occupational health and safety in homecare. Homecare workers care for vulnerable clients but their own vulnerability to health and safety risks is seldom examined. Pilot research revealed unrecognised hazards arising from the isolated and fragmented nature of the work. This project will systematically identify hazards and develop interventions to promote healthier and safer homecare work.
